In the immortal words of Bugs Bunny..... after 28 successful and delightful years, Ayrshire Young Arts have taken the decision to close down, in recognition of the impact of COVID, and also the lack of any new committee members to take forwards the work. It is a natural end to a long life cycle, and we are very proud of what successive committees have achieved over the years in terms of diverse and stimulating activities. We would like to thank all past and present committee members, artist leaders, parents and of course our members for their energy and commitment. This website will stay live for posting some of our highlights, from time to time, and signposting to other related activities. Under our constitution, the remaining funds will be transferred to an organisation with the same aims, and we have chosen Impact Arts, who remain active in Glasgow and Ayrshire. Members, there will be so many opportunities to grow your creativity; we wish you well.

Hope you all enjoyed the advertising agency workshop, and thanks once more to Stephen Cole! We have attached an image from Amelia on our Gallery page. This month, we are working on a Pop Art session, with an emphasis on techniques for creating glossy curved shapes in watercolour. Pop Art is essentially a movement which adopted showy iconic images from popular media - magazines, TV, films and adverts, then reassembled them to make us think, or sometimes just to make us laugh. People think of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, but British artists Paolozzi and Hamilton were among the first to strike out on this path. Image from Eduardo Paolozzi's BASH print below. The workshop video should be ready for members by Sunday 7th March.
This month, we are going to learn about the creative industries through a workshop provided by Stephen of Cole AD - an advertising and marketing company in Glasgow. Stephen demonstrates how brand logos work, and he gives us an insight into his industry and how vibrant this is. Then our task is to create an eye-catching logo for our very own Airline! As recognition for members' efforts, we will send out a £25 arts materials voucher for the first four members who send in photos of their work.
News to follow soon about our final workshop in March. Dear members, we are ready with our new workshop, very beautifully laid out and explained by Ian McNicol, Master Printer. We look forwards to seeing the results. Anything goes; portrait, still life, landscape, abstract!
Next month: Get an introduction to the world of advertising. We live in hope of getting back to travelling, so the task presented by the Cole-AD advertising agency will be to create the logo for your own airline. Thanks to our members for feedback, and you can see some great results from this month's workshop in our website Gallery! We are working on the Christmas workshop and this would be ready within the next fortnight.
The Illustrated Manuscripts workshop is now available on the Workshops page! Pamela will lead us on a journey of colour and imagination, and you can learn to create your own beautiful lettering, which can be applied to your bedroom door or to make a greeting card by hand.
Here is what Phoebe Anna Traquair made 100 years ago. We hoped you enjoyed Roddy McKenzie's brilliant video to open our season. This month we have a Collage workshop led by Nigel Bradey, which is now available to members on our Workshop page. For inspiration you can Google images for 'victorian hybrid creature species'. Enjoy!
The membership page is now open for payments, and the first workshop should be posted within the next couple of days, our guest artist being Roddy McKenzie of the Electric Brae Gallery. Tune in an enjoy!
re membership page - the 'make an account' feature doesn't work, so we advise simply making payment, and the password for the Workshops page should be sent to you within 2 days... Hello, welcome to members new and old. We were looking forward to seeing everyone in person for our 20-21 Season, thinking that we could resume on the same footing as the schools. However it appears that community groups are subject to different rules and no youth groups have resumed yet due to COVID19. We could wait until everything restarts, but as we are not sure when that will be and being conscious of the ongoing need for creative pathways during a stressful year, we are instead looking to create a series of online workshops on this website. Membership would now be 'per family' and at only £21 per season, this represents fantastic value at £3 per workshop. The magic elves are at work on the website and we aim to provide one workshop each month starting from September. Payment details for access to the workshop pages, to follow. Please let us have your comments / views..........
We hope you are all OK after this particularly challenging time, and that you have been able to spend some time on arts/crafts and enjoying nature. The AYA committee is planning another season of activities, and we will publish the dates of our season once we have a clearer ideas of the lifting of restrictions and obtain guidance from relevant sources. The cost of membership will be unchanged for 2020-21.
We feel that there is still very much a role for creative practice in helping us meet and overcome challenges, and to help enriched our lives. The minutes of our AGM appear above. We wish everyone well over the summer, with plenty of learning, and creative relaxation. |
